2020 Japan Lecture Series:

Japanese Culture Through Video Games

Dr. Rachael Hutchinson delves into the internationally known industry of Japanese video games, and how Japan's influence on the gaming market affects international views of the country and culture. She will also discuss how Japanese video game creators have co-opted certain techniques used by more traditional mediums such as literature and film and made them into something more palatable to the newest generation of consumers in society.

The Japanese Student Association at Carnegie Mellon University welcomes you to MATSURI, their biggest event of the year celebrating Japanese culture and diversity on April 3. Visit their Facebook page for more information.

The Pittsburgh Japanese Culture Society presents Tekko 2020, Pennsylvania's largest Japanese Culture and Gaming Convention April 2-5, 2020 at the David Lawrence Convention Center.

Be part of the largest one-day Japanese festival in the country and become a Sakura Matsuri Volunteer! If you are interested in volunteering for this festival on April 4 in Washington, D.C., visit their website.

The Japanese Nationality Room at the University of Pittsburgh is organizing a Bon Odori group for Open Streets on May 31 in Oakland. Visit their Facebook page to find out more or register to dance.

Japanese-English Reading Circle

The Japanese-English Reading Circle is held on the first and third Saturdays of the month at the Kenmawr Apartments in Shadyside. Members meet to discuss Japanese- and English- language readings with each other as well as play vocabulary games in their second language.
