The Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Work, Health, and Social Well-Being: Perspectives from the U.S. and Japan

On October 10, RAND will host a conference to discuss U.S. and Japanese perspectives on artificial intelligence. What impacts could it have on work, health, and social well-being in both countries? David Danks, Department Head & L.L. Thurstone Professor of Philosophy and Psychology at Carnegie Mellon University will present a keynote address on designing artificial intelligence for social effect through policy. His insights will be supplemented by presentations from experts on key issues related to artificial intelligence. See the event website for more information.

All for All Summit

Spanning three days from October 10th through the 12th, this year's All for All Summit features community tours to help us go deeper in experiencing the real Pittsburgh, a daylong interactive forum on immigrant inclusion, and a block party with local and international performers to celebrate our multicultural roots. Asia Pop Speaker Series: J-Pop

Dr. Ian Condry will lead the third lecture in our new Asia Pop series. He will compare the diverse ranges of pop music in Japan to understand how they combine to influence Japanese society. Currently, Dr. Condry is a cultural anthropologist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He is also the author of two books about Japanese pop music (J-pop): Hip-Hop Japan and The Soul of Anime.

Godzilla on My Mind: Godzilla in Japanese History and the Global Imagination

Please join the NCTA for an evening lecture with William Tsutsui, Japanese historian and president of Hendrix College. This talk will introduce the 1954 film, survey the history and impact of the 32 Godzilla movies, reflect on Hollywood’s handling of the King of the Monsters, and assess the impact of changes in special effects technology, cinematic fashion, and global politics on the world’s oldest and longest film franchise.

#GiveBigPittsburgh is a digital fundraising event that connects individuals with the causes that matter to them and empowers donors to give to the local nonprofits that tackle our communities' most critical issues.

Japanese-English Reading Circle

The Japanese-English Reading Circle is held on the first and third Saturdays of the month at the Kenmawr Apartments in Shadyside. Members meet to discuss Japanese- and English- language readings with each other as well as play vocabulary games in their second language.
